More info on carbon stored by urban trees & cypress trees:
Bald cypress can reach 36-72” diameter at breast height.
For an 18” DBH tree, sequesters 3,720 kg of CO2 after 50 years
For a 36” DBH tree, sequesters 20,650 kg of CO2 after 50 years
For a 72” DBH tree, sequesters 109,000 kg of CO2 after 50 years
14,500 kg = average USA resident annual carbon emissions
4,600 kg = average personal car emissions per year
Calculate your carbon footprint here on the EPA's website.
"Based on field data from 10 USA cities and national urban tree cover data, it is estimated that urban trees in the coterminous USA currently store 700 million tonnes of carbon ($14,300 million value) with a gross carbon sequestration rate of 22.8 million tC/yr ($460 million/year). Urban forests in the north central, northeast, south central and southeast regions of the USA store and sequester the most carbon, with average carbon storage per hectare greatest in southeast, north central, northeast and Pacific northwest regions, respectively. The national average urban forest carbon storage density is 25.1 tC/ha, compared with 53.5 tC/ha in forest stands." - Science Direct
Southeast Louisiana is on the frontlines of both the impacts and solutions to climate change. To address the global climate crisis and reduce the threats of sea level rise and natural disasters, we need to restore our natural environments that have been harmed via our industrial ways. Planting native trees and marsh grasses in our Southeast Louisiana wetlands builds carbon sinks, builds land, and builds relationships that can weather threats to our coast. Common Ground Relief has been planting native trees and marsh grasses in Southeast Louisiana for over 15 years, and as an organization founded in response to the destruction of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita they know that the need for restoration is acute and essential for our neighbors, our coast, and our region.
Common Ground's work focuses on three primary programs: habitat restoration, environmental education, and community aid. This awesome organization mobilizes over 1,000 volunteers annually to plant over 5,000 trees and 20,0000 plugs of marsh grass, distribute over 30,000 pounds of food, manage invasive species, respond to natural disasters, and more!
Goods that Matter was inspired to offer our own carbon credits when finding frustration in wanting to purchase carbon offsets for the business and for our founder Tippy's home use - In not knowing where her $ would be going, Tippy was inspired to partner with a local group and to offer full transparency of where/how/why the funding would be distributed & what benefits would occur.
$114 = Planting of one acre of trees with monthly donation after twelve months + management fee + credit card transaction fee
Information produit
Orders are shipped between 1 - 3 days upon receipt via USPS, UPS, or FedEx. We typically ship on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Once your order is shipped, you will receive an email notification to let you know that your Goods are en route.
Orders typically take 2-5 shipping days to arrive at your doorstep, this does vary per shipping service, especially during these supply chain issue times. We aren't responsible for delayed or lost/stolen shipments. We do offer UPS or FedEx shipping which includes insurance, which is recommended. **More shipping info below.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need something shipped immediately for a special occasion - or if you have any questions for that matter, and we look very forward to hearing from you!
All online shipments are carbon neutral. We participate in Shopify's Planet Millenium plan - which purchases carbon credits for each online order as well as helps to fund green carbon offset technologies which absorb carbon for 1000+ years. We also use 100% recycled boxes, packing paper, & paper tape - all of which can be recycled.
Merci Beaucoup & enjoy your Goods!
**Invoices are not included with packages due to many orders being sent as gifts, however you will receive an email receipt in your order notification email.
**Orders sent First class USPS don't automatically include insurance. Insurance is required in order to replace orders that have gone missing during shipment (a thankfully unusual occurrence). Priority USPS, UPS, or FedEx orders do include insurance for the value of your order. USPS claims can be filed here, FedEx here, & UPS here. Heads up that FedEx & UPS claims are far easier to submit and to actually receive payment for damaged/lost goods.
**Returns/exchanges - Unfortunately these are not possible due to the hygienic nature of the soaps and body care products. Made to order items are also not possible to return or exchange. For the rest of our items, if items are not damaged, an exchange is possible within 14 days of purchase with proof of purchase. As a small business, we are not able to pay for return shipping.
**Shipping Internationally: We are happy to ship to you wherever you are in the world! Just select your country from the list and when shipped via USPS, estimate 7-15 days for arrival. If shipping via USPS, tracking and insurance are sometimes unavailable, so we are not able to guarantee your package against being lost or stolen. (We haven't had any issues to date, knock on wood.)
**We frequently use upcycled shipping boxes & protective shipping materials, including bubble wrap, compostable shipping peanuts, & recyclable air pockets.
**Sales or discounts do not include gift sets, books, first aid kits, or Little Sun Products.
**Glycerin Soap - High quality glycerin soap naturally attracts moisture from the air. If your soap has a little of the protective waxed shipping tissue stuck, give your Bird or Bar an initial wash, this is completely normal for a handmade soap. The BirdSoaps are carefully wrapped in 100% recycled tissue paper to protect their shape during shipping.
**Privacy Policy - We never share your information with anyone. If you sign up for our newsletter, your email is stored via our newsletter software (flodesk), we don't keep any of your data on file or share your info with anyone.
